The Activate Uptown Storefront Improvement Grant Program provides matching grants—up to $5,000 per property—to support exterior improvements to commercial properties in Mt. Lebanon’s Uptown Business District. Funded by the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon and jointly administered with the Mt. Lebanon Partnership, the program aims to enhance curb appeal, preserve architectural character, and strengthen long-term economic vitality.
Who Can Apply
- Commercial property owners
- Commercial tenants with written owner approval
- Properties must be within the Uptown Business District (see map)
Eligible Improvements
- Façade restoration and repair
- Signage installation or removal
- Awnings, lighting, and painting (no painting of unpainted brick)
- Outdoor seating or furnishings
- Accessibility upgrades
- Visible rear/side façade improvements (case-by-case approval)
Not Eligible
- Routine maintenance
- Roof or siding repairs
- Plastic or internally illuminated signs
- New construction
- Parking lot, driveway, or sidewalk repair
Grant Details
- Match: 50% required (up to $5,000 award)
- Disbursement: Reimbursement after approved work is complete
- Timeline: Work must be completed within 120 days (extensions possible)
- Standards: All projects must meet Uptown Design Guidelines, local zoning and codes.

Submit the form with required materials (current photos, renderings or materials, contractor estimates, and owner consent if applicable).

- Agreement: No work may begin until the grant agreement is signed.
- Completion & Reimbursement: Work must match approved plans; submit invoices for reimbursement.
Note: All permits must be secured by the applicant. No funds are provided for work started before approval.
